If you want to find a drug rehab for a loved one, you have to ask the right questions. You have to find out about the philosophy and focus of the facility, accreditation, cost, treatment options available, and availability of health practitioners, among others. It is taxing and time-consuming to be familiar with the treatment options and particularly the interviewing part, but it is necessary for you to find the right drug rehab with the right services at the right price.

In the journal PLOS Medicine, the US bagged the top spot among the 17 countries that ranked high in the use of both legal and illegal drugs such as cocaine. It is therefore given that there are also hundreds if not thousands of drug rehab centers that these users can turn to if ever this use leads to addiction. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), in the US, there are 14,500 specialized drug rehab centers.

Aside from these, there are private clinics that cater to drug addiction. Support groups and twelve-step fellowships are also available. This is great news for anyone who has a loved one who suffers from drug addiction, but the nagging question is how will you choose and how will you be sure that it is the right facility?

Remember to make sure that a specialized drug rehab facility must offer the following:  addiction medication, therapy, counselling, and other services. Such services must be provided by any of the following: physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, counselors, and others.

It pays to do a bit of research when you look for a specialized drug rehab facility. Each rehab facility has its own focus. It can be on medical detox yet without any long-term care. Another type is the partial hospitalization program (PHP). This type of facility provides intense care for a couple of hours each day, but the patient may go home at night or to a home after the session.

Inpatient rehab program is another option. This will address the existing mental and medical health concerns of the patient apart from drug addiction. This particular treatment may happen in a standalone residential area or a hospital.

Another choice is the intensive outpatient program (IOP). It involves a highly structured and time-intensive treatment plan. It ensures that the patient is within a supportive environment. Without any intensive drug care, there is high probability for a patient to undergo a relapse.

Outpatient care on the other hand is great for a patient who already completed inpatient care, who does not have time off from work or other responsibilities, or one who does not require intensive care. Drug addiction therapy is conducted in a series of appointments that are appropriately spaced other activities making the patient live as is.
